NaLyssa Smith, a forward for the Las Vegas Aces, addressed accusations made by her ex-girlfriend DiJonai Carrington during a live Twitch session. Carrington, a guard for the Chicago Sky, accused Smith of involvement in a cheating scandal with multiple players.
Smith neither confirmed nor denied the allegations. She questioned Carrington’s decision to publicly reveal their private matters a year after their breakup. Carrington accused Smith of cheating with several players, including Aces teammate Deja Kelly and Atlanta Dream guard Aaliyah Nye.
“Whether she cheated on me and I cheated on her, why bring that to the internet a year later when nobody did anything to anybody? That has nothing to do with anybody,” Smith said. “Bringing this to the internet a year later is ridiculous, especially when you’re in a happy, healthy relationship.”
Smith criticized Carrington for involving Kelly and Nye in the dispute, stating, “To bring up folks’ names that have nothing to do with anything—these folks woke up to this on a random Sunday night of these allegations. I think that’s very weird.”
An incident between the former partners reportedly led to a confrontation, with Smith claiming that Carrington initiated an argument that required security intervention. “Here goes DiJonai. ‘You talkin to that b*tch, you talkin to that b*tch.’ I’m like, ‘Why I gotta be a b*tch?’ Literally on my grandmother’s grave, I’m like, ‘Damn, why I gotta be a b*tch?’
Smith denied claims that she appeared uninvited to monitor Carrington. “I didn’t do anything. I’m sitting on the couch posting, minding my business. I didn’t do nothing to nobody,” she stated.
“I guess the liquor, the cameras, her crowd—somebody boosted her to gain some confidence. But that was some bulls–t. We came to the spot, folks was chilling. Nobody did nothing to nobody,” Smith said, implying alcohol influenced Carrington’s actions.
Smith and Carrington, both former Baylor University players, are set to face each other on the basketball court on August 1, when Carrington’s team hosts Smith and the Aces in Chicago.
