Today, Alaska voters are faced with a crowded field in the open primary for the governor’s race. Former Anchorage mayor Dave Bronson (R), seen in a 2021 image, is one of the 17 candidates vying for nomination.
The primary marks the state’s first truly open governor’s race in over twenty years, following Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s (R) conclusion of his term due to term limits. Alaska’s primary system, which is unique, features all candidates on one ballot. The top four finishers will move on to the general election, regardless of their party affiliation.
