Universal Orlando’s Lost Continent Faces Phased Closure

The Lost Continent at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure is set to close in phases more than 25 years after it became a mainstay of the park. Demolition has started with an excavator and rubble seen at the site. A Universal Orlando spokesperson confirmed that the closure will make way for a new themed area.

End of an Era for Attractions

Mythos Restaurant will continue operating until 2027 before joining other attractions in closing. The Lost Continent opened in 1999, featuring mythology-inspired designs and deep storytelling. Over the years, it has enchanted visitors with fantasy adventures and live entertainment.

Among its attractions were the Dueling Dragons roller coasters, which were famous for their synchronized elements. Renamed Dragon Challenge in 2010, this ride made way for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure in 2017.

Retired Favorites

Poyant’s Fury, known for its dramatic effects, and the Eighth Voyage of Sinbad show, both drew large crowds but have since closed. Despite past successes, Universal has steadily modified the area.

Universal Orlando Resort is preparing new guest offerings, including new themed areas and eateries, the resort shared in a statement.

The Horror Make-Up Show at Universal Studios Florida will also be closed to prepare for a reimagined experience that blends classic and modern horror elements.

Looking to the Future

Hogwarts Castle will continue to undergo upkeep as Universal readies for Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a fast-paced roller coaster set to open in 2027.

Reactions from park visitors are mixed. Some welcome the changes, citing the closure of older attractions, while others express sadness at seeing the Lost Continent stage its final curtain call.
