Former First Lady Jill Biden recently expressed her alarm regarding former President Joe Biden’s health during his 2024 debate performance, fearing he experienced a stroke. Her latest comments offer a stark contrast to her prior affirmations of his debate performance.
In an interview with CBS, Jill Biden recounted her concerns, stating, “I don’t know what happened. I mean, when I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke,’ and it scared me to death.” The then-president exhibited long pauses, confused expressions, and stammering speech.
Understanding Stroke Symptoms
According to the Mayo Clinic, a stroke can happen due to brain bleeding or blocked blood flow to the brain. Identifying stroke symptoms can be challenging since they vary. The American Stroke Association (ASA) uses the acronym “B.E. F.A.S.T.” to outline key warning signs:
- B – Balance loss
- E – Eye (vision) changes
- F – Face drooping
- A – Arm weakness
- S – Speech difficulty
- T – Time to call 911
Dr. Marc Siegel, a Fox News senior medical analyst, emphasized the importance of contacting emergency services immediately at stroke onset, as untreated strokes result in the death of 1.9 million brain cells per minute.
Aspirin is not recommended if bleeding is the stroke cause; however, it may help in ischemic stroke cases. Early emergency intervention can lead to better survival and reduced disability risks.
Stroke Prevention and Treatment
ASA indicates that about 80% of strokes are preventable by managing risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, and atrial fibrillation. CDC data shows one in four stroke survivors suffer another stroke within five years, highlighting the importance of prevention plans.
