New exhibitions and grand reopenings are energizing the area around the National Mall with a festive, patriotic atmosphere. Recent additions include a pair of block parties that contribute to the celebratory spirit.
Among the highlight events is the exhibit “American Aspirations” at the Smithsonian. This exhibit features legendary items such as the mahogany desk Thomas Jefferson used to draft the Declaration of Independence.
Over recent months, cultural institutions have intensified their activities in preparation for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. This effort began in spring and included American-themed exhibitions at Glenstone and the National Gallery of Art. Additionally, new Revolutionary War activities at Mount Vernon add to the excitement. All these events will continue through 2026.
The period between Memorial Day and July 4 introduces another wave of events designed to evoke patriotic pride. There will be a parade of tall ships and a downtown block party. Visitors can appreciate some of the nation’s most iconic treasures displayed together.
This season offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the American Experiment by engaging with the history and culture that define the nation.
