Gotham FC Moves to Etihad Park in Queens

Gotham FC has announced a major change, moving home games from New Jersey to Etihad Park stadium in Queens, New York City. Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, the club governor, highlighted the importance of New York City as a premier sports stage. She stated, “When we came in as new owners two-and-a-half years ago, we set the vision to be one of the best sports teams in the world, and this move is the next chapter in that.”

The move follows Gotham FC’s success in the National Women’s Soccer League Championship in 2023 and 2025. Blodgett added, “We won two championships in the last three years, so we clearly have demonstrated success on the field. Now is our chance to do it off the field as well and create a match-day experience that matches our ambition.”

The team’s future stadium is planned for the Willets Point neighborhood of Queens and is expected to be completed by the 2028 season. This signifies a shift from their current location in Harrison, New Jersey, where they share Sports Illustrated Stadium with the New York Red Bulls.

In addition to the relocation, Gotham FC announced the establishment of a dedicated training facility in Whippany, New Jersey. Tisch Blodgett emphasized the importance of having their own space, stating, “For so long, Gotham, like so many women’s teams, we’re always in borrowed spaces. We are always a tenant, we are always kind of working around other schedules.”

She continued, “Announcing our training facility, and now our stadium, are two parts of the same vision, which is to create a permanent home for Gotham, for a women’s team. So we will have a best-in-class training facility in New Jersey, and a best-in-class home gameday experience at Etihad Park in New York.”

The players are thrilled about these developments. Tisch Blodgett shared, “Of all of the people we’ve gotten the chance to tell about this news, probably the most special was telling the players. So many of our players have lived through the ups and downs of women’s sports. They’ve been in stadiums where there are hundreds of fans, not thousands, they have been on everyone else’s schedule.”

Now, the players gain a dedicated environment, with their own locker rooms and training facilities specifically designed for them. Tric Blodgett remarked, “Now to be able to have their own locker room, their own training facility that was custom designed for them, is incredibly special.”

Gotham FC and New York City FC released a joint statement highlighting that the move marks a defining moment in Gotham FC’s journey, offering a matchday environment and supporter experience that aligns with their ambitions.
