Mitchell & Michaels Plat Du Jour, located in downtown Homewood, is transforming its menu offerings. Opened in January 2026, the restaurant seeks to enhance customer satisfaction after six months of operation. Owner Chris Michaels, alongside his wife Stacey, shares plans to broaden the menu and introduce weekend brunch hours from the weekend of the 25th.
Michaels acknowledges early feedback, stating the importance of evolving their offerings. Originally focused on Southern soul food, the new menu will include traditional American dishes meant to encourage frequent visits. He explains the decision-making process: “It was about understanding what our community wants— adding burgers, pastas, and paninis based on customer requests.”
The menu expansion includes approximately 25 new items. Michaels clarifies the intent: “It’s about catering to everyday dining needs while still offering options for special occasions.” The restaurant operates Wednesday to Sunday, remaining closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. A dedicated soul food menu will be available during weekends.
The official relaunch is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. Michaels emphasizes the timing of these changes: “We’re right on schedule after learning what suits our establishment and customers best.”
The restaurant, located on Dixie Highway, lies near the Homewood Public Library. Weekend brunch services will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by soul food offerings. Michaels remarks, “Brunch has been in demand since our opening. Its structured introduction benefits both us and our patrons.”
Mitchell & Michaels Plat Du Jour also hosts live entertainment weekly and offers space for catered events. Chris Michaels, whose background includes broadcasting, entered the restaurant industry for its entertainment opportunities. He reflects on Homewood’s support, and his personal connection to the Southland area, tracing back nearly four decades.
Their choice of location was strategic, favoring proximity to Homewood’s active downtown scene. Michaels acknowledges the successful growth beyond initial expectations: “Our visions were modest— the reality has pleasantly surpassed them.”
