Law enforcement responded to a dramatic scene in Queens, New York, where a suspect emerged from a home following a fiery explosion. The incident began when the New York City Police Department (NYPD) received a 911 call reporting gunfire and a man shouting threats.
According to NYPD Assistant Chief Christopher McIntosh, the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Keegan Thompson, was shot by police and subsequently arrested. Authorities later discovered the bodies of two family members inside the residence.
Officers arrived at the Ocean Crest Boulevard location shortly after noon to find a woman outside. She told them about hearing gunshots, discovering a body inside, and warned that her husband was armed with a shotgun. The police then secured the area and called for the NYPD Emergency Service Unit (ESU).
As preparations were made to enter the premises, a large explosion went off inside the home. Moments later, Thompson appeared, armed with a shotgun and wearing tactical gear, including a vest with extra ammunition. Despite officers’ orders to disarm, Thompson continued to hold the firearm. An officer shot him, and police provided medical aid before transporting him to Jamaica Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Police later found two deceased individuals inside the home. The victims have yet to be identified, and the cause of death is under investigation. Meanwhile, nearby homes were evacuated to safeguard residents.
Authorities are still examining the cause of the explosion. When asked about the possibility of explosives, McIntosh indicated that the investigation is ongoing. Body-worn cameras recorded the shooting, and the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is reviewing the footage.
Assistant Chief McIntosh praised the officers for their bravery, emphasizing their willingness to face danger without hesitation.
