Demetrius Byrd, a former standout wide receiver for LSU, faces serious charges after an incident on a Miami bus. He allegedly engaged in a heated dispute with another passenger, during which he reportedly brandished a knife. The situation escalated when Byrd is said to have posed a direct threat.
The New York Post reports an arrest document claiming Byrd asked, “Who wants to die?” Fellow passengers attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the confrontation intensified with the introduction of the blade.
According to online records, Byrd faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remains in custody with bail set at $5,000.
Byrd also has an outstanding warrant related to domestic violence. Known for his memorable catch securing LSU’s victory over Auburn in 2007, Byrd’s football career faced hurdles. While considered a promising NFL draft prospect, a significant car accident just before the draft diminished his standing, resulting in his selection during the seventh round by the San Diego Chargers. Unfortunately, Byrd never played a professional game.
Throughout his collegiate career, Byrd played 27 games for LSU, recording 72 receptions, 1,134 yards, and 11 touchdowns.
