San Francisco Giants outfielder Harrison Bader faces suspension from the team following a late-night scooter accident that will sideline him for the remainder of the season and halt his paychecks.
Buster Posey, the Giants president of baseball operations, announced on Friday that Bader’s salary would be suspended while the club investigates the accident’s circumstances.
“Over the weekend, Harrison Bader was involved in an accident that has delayed Harrison’s prior treatment timeline for plantar fasciitis and, unfortunately, his return to the field,” Posey stated in a team-released statement, according to MLB.com.
Bader, under a two-year, $20.5 million contract with the Giants, had been recovering from a plantar fasciitis injury since May 29. However, the scooter crash, which occurred at 2 a.m. on Sunday, resulted in further injury, ensuring the remainder of his 2026 season is lost.
The accident involved Bader’s scooter colliding with the rear of a San Francisco Fire Department truck, with the truck’s wheel rolling over his foot, as detailed in a report by SFist.
This incident isn’t Bader’s first scooter-related mishap. In 2014, while playing for Florida, he drunkenly crashed a scooter into a parked truck, leading to a 19-game suspension.
Bader is recognized for his impressive defensive skills in center field and is in his 10th season playing in the major leagues. His career started with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he played nearly six seasons before a trade to the New York Yankees.
Over the last three seasons, he has played for various teams including the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, and most recently, the Giants.
With a career batting average of .244 along with 93 home runs and 336 RBIs, he has struggled this season with the Giants, posting a .170 batting average and five home runs over 39 games.
