A Kansas man contacted 911 on Tuesday, reporting a tragic incident involving his family. He claimed to have killed his four children and wife, and then turned the gun on himself as police arrived in Winfield.
Police Chief Robbie DeLong mentioned that the first officer on the scene heard a gunshot and withdrew. Law enforcement set up a perimeter around the house due to uncertainty about a possible active shooter inside.
About two hours after the initial 911 call, police entered the home near 9th Avenue and Stewart Street. They discovered six people dead, suggesting a murder-suicide.
The alleged shooter was identified as Ronald H. Williams Sr, 53. He was the individual who called 911 to report the crime. The identified victims included Kelly L. George, 44, and children Carol A. Williams, 9, Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7, Sarah K. Williams, 5, and Kelly M. Magee-Williams, 3.
Williams Sr. had a lengthy criminal history in Kansas and was listed as a registered sex offender. KWCH 12 News reported that he entered the Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s sex offender registry in June 1997, during his 20s. His record included several felony charges from 1995 to 2024 across various eastern Kansas counties. Offenses included drug charges, battery, assault on law enforcement, and attempted rape and kidnapping.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Winfield Police Department are actively investigating the shooting.
