F-16 fighter jets intercepted a plane that entered a no-fly zone established during President Donald Trump’s visit to Geneva, Ohio. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening as reported by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
At approximately 6:15 p.m. ET, the jets deployed flares to attract the attention of the pilot before safely escorting the aircraft out of the restricted area. Trump was in Ohio for the Patriot Games, a three-day event for teenagers designed by the administration to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.
NORAD, a joint effort between American and Canadian forces, regularly intercepts aircraft that violate temporary airspace restrictions put in place to protect the president. This is not an isolated event; F-16s had previously intercepted two “general aviation” planes that breached airspace limits over Bedminster, New Jersey, during Trump’s visit to his golf course on the prior Sunday.
General aviation refers to the broad classification of non-commercial civilian aircraft.
