Joseph Sawyer, a former WWE star known as Joe Gacy, made his much-awaited return to Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) during Homecoming Night 1. The event was held at the Showboat Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Sawyer, earlier known as Psycho Joe, clinched the GCW World Championship against Atticus Cogar in a brutal contest.
During the match, Sawyer and Cogar engaged in a fierce battle featuring chair shots and attempts to drive one another through a door placed in the ring’s corner. Sawyer sealed his victory with a Sister Abigail DDT. The crowd erupted, hitting the ring apron in celebration.
In addition to the thrilling matches, there were tributes to the late Bray Wyatt. Cogar’s entrance music paid homage to the former WWE star, and he wore attire inspired by Wyatt.
Otis Cogar retained his GCW Ultraviolent Championship against Anakin Murphy. Murphy energized the local crowd with gear inspired by My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way. Despite Murphy’s resilient efforts, Cogar’s use of a brutal chair shot proved decisive.
Another intense contest involved Vipress and Christian Napier in a Chola Chain Match. Attached via a chain to their wrists, the match took a dramatic turn when Vipress busted open after being thrown into a chair. She regained control, using light tubes as weapons and causing Napier to tap out by wrapping the chain around his face.
The night witnessed a six-man deathmatch, where Nick Gage, Nino Extremo, and Sicko The Clown overcame Conor Claxton, Dr. Redacted, and Jimmy Lloyd. Sicko The Clown’s dramatic finish involved a Spanish Fly on Claxton through light tubes, resulting in Claxton being taken to a hospital.
Elsewhere, KJ Orso and Sam Stackhouse captured the GCW Tag Team Championship, defeating Alec Price and Jordan Oliver. In another notable match, Joey Janela, with Ryan O’Neill’s assistance, triumphed over Marko Stunt, preserving his wrestling career.
Pro wrestling fans can look forward to GCW Homecoming Night 2, scheduled again at the Showboat. The event will be available to watch on Triller TV+.
