The National Park Service is requesting information regarding hikers or backpackers present in areas impacted by a recent flash flood in Grand Canyon National Park. The flood, described as significant, occurred on Saturday and has left more than 20 individuals potentially missing or unaccounted for.
Officials emphasized the importance of locating anyone who had reservations at campgrounds in the affected zones. On Sunday, remnants of stone bridge pylons were observed along Bright Angel Creek following the destruction of a footbridge due to the flash flood.
“More than 20 people may be missing or unaccounted for,” said park officials, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The National Park Service is urging anyone who was in the area or has relevant information to reach out and assist in the efforts.
