Paul Finebaum expressed doubts about Arch Manning following Texas’s defeat to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. The Longhorns lost their top national ranking with a 27-24 loss at the Cotton Bowl. The Sooners overcame a 10-point halftime deficit, intercepting Manning twice in the fourth quarter.
Finebaum, a previous advocate for Manning as a potential Heisman Trophy winner, questioned the quarterback’s abilities on “The Matt Barrie Show.” He remarked, We believed Arch Manning could do anything,
adding that Manning’s performance fell short of those expectations.
Despite making impactful plays, including completing 19 of 31 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns, Manning has not achieved stardom. In his junior year, he averages 7.7 yards per pass attempt.
Finebaum finds Manning inconsistent, saying, He can be great in moments, yet foolish in others.
Manning led a key 75-yard drive to tie the game, but the Longhorns only gained 64 combined yards in four other fourth-quarter drives. His second interception allowed Tate Sandell to secure the win with a 47-yard field goal as time ran out.
Manning and the Longhorns aim to recover when they host the Florida Gators on Saturday.
