Michael Douglas recently opened up about his friend Jack Nicholson’s retreat from public life. In discussing his new memoir, “One Helluva Ride,” Douglas, 82, mentioned that Nicholson, known for his extensive work in film, has “disappeared” from the spotlight. Douglas expressed regret at never having had the chance to work with Nicholson but noted, “He’s not working anymore. He’s well. He has disappeared. I know that.” Douglas added that although he still sees Nicholson, the legendary actor prefers to stay near his home.
Jack Nicholson, now 89, has not been active in the film industry since his last appearance in the 2010 movie “How Do You Know.” Despite his absence from the public eye, Douglas assured that Nicholson is in good health, spending time at home.
In a related anecdote, Crystal Hefner recently spoke about the social dynamics of the Playboy Mansion on her “After the Mansion” podcast. She mentioned Jack Nicholson as a frequent visitor, describing how celebrities viewed the mansion as a personal club. Hefner said, “They used to call it Jack Nicholson’s drive-thru because he would drive up, grab some food or whatever else he could get there, and leave.”
Lorraine Nicholson, Jack’s daughter, shared her own experiences at the Playboy Mansion in a Vanity Fair essay. Growing up with famous parents, Lorraine often visited the mansion and interacted with the Hefner family. Commenting on her father’s visits, she clarified that she spent more time there than he did, as he was frequently on the guest list.
Crystal Hefner also commented on Hugh Hefner’s fascination with fame, explaining how Hollywood celebrities were welcomed warmly at the mansion. She said, “One thing that mattered most to Hef was fame. Any celebrity was treated extremely well whenever they visited.” Crystal described how various famous personalities, including Buzz Aldrin and notable actors, frequented the mansion.
Reflecting on her relationship with Hugh Hefner, Crystal noted that she dated him from a young age and they were engaged in 2010. The couple married in 2012 and remained together until his death in 2017. During his later years, she emphasized her efforts to maintain his dignity and respect, saying, “The entire mansion existed to cater to Hef’s needs, women included.”
