The Washington Spirit faced an eagerly anticipated match at Audi Field on Sunday night. The stadium was sold out as the Spirit took on the NWSL’s lowest-ranked team. The stakes were significant, as a draw would secure a home playoff game for the Spirit.
Topping off a successful evening with a win had additional implications. Depending on results from other matches, a victory could boost the Spirit to the No. 2 seed. Achieving this would guarantee home-field advantage throughout the postseason. The title game scheduled for November 21 is already set to take place in D.C.
During the first half of the match, Spirit forward Trinity Rodman showcased her skills. She dribbled vigorously against Stars defender Michelle Alozie, setting the tone for her team’s performance.
