Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche Nears Senate Confirmation

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche moved closer to Senate confirmation on Sunday. He formally withdrew a controversial $1.8 billion fund and adjusted tax protections from the IRS settlement under President Donald Trump.

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, confirmed an agreement had been reached after he and Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., had previously delayed Blanche’s nomination. The Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on the nomination on Tuesday.

Blanche stated, “My team and I have met with committee members and Senators over the past several weeks and addressed any concerns or outstanding questions.” He expressed satisfaction with the discussions, noting that the Department values engagement with Congress.

Blanche officially rescinded the order from May 18 regarding the fund. He also clarified that tax protections in the settlement are retroactive and will not affect future filings.

This is a developing story. Additional information will be made available as it comes in.
