National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators have released details about the Amazon cargo jet accident at Miami International Airport on Sunday. The timeline reveals that the pilots were not fully in control during landing.
The report by NTSB indicates that the pilots may have considered aborting the landing temporarily. This decision led to a loss of several seconds and runway length, causing the aircraft to overrun the runway. The plane struck two vehicles as it exited airport grounds, crossing a public road. Five people died in the incident.
Steven Arroyo, an aviation expert and retired United Airlines pilot, commented, “You either land or go around. Attempting both without mechanical issues is unheard of.”
The NTSB has not yet released the cockpit voice recorder transcript but plans to do so soon. They are also set to interview the pilots, according to Jennifer Homendy, the NTSB chair.
Chihoon Shin, the lead crash investigator, provided a timeline from the flight data recorder. These recorders stop when power cuts off, such as during a crash.
