An event organized for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at Cornell University led to controversy when hosts sang the anti-Israel slogan ‘from the river to the sea’. The Cornell University Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) hosted the event, branded as a ‘Students vs. Billionaires’ town hall. The group’s president Mina Petrova and co-chair Zoe Reisman led a crowd of around 2,000 in the chant, after declaring, ‘long live the student intifada’.
Mina Petrova addressed the audience, stating that Cornell prioritizes billionaires over students, emphasizing its capitalist agenda. She accused CEO trustees of profiting from genocide and war, triggering applause from attendees.
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) Liberation Caucus criticized Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, releasing a statement that they would not endorse her as a presidential candidate for 2028. The group claims to stand against imperialism and in solidarity with oppressed people, emphasizing the persistence of student activism and resistance.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez joined the stage without offering apologies, attacking Cornell for alleged censorship. She highlighted the importance of responding to crackdown efforts, whether related to Palestine or other issues, arguing that large-scale mobilization can overcome opposition.
Aiming to boost voter turnout in Democratic areas, AOC’s campaign confronts skepticism towards DSA associations. A Fox News Poll reveals that 55% of registered voters disfavor the DSA, with only 30% viewing it positively. Despite growing traction among Democrats, national skepticism remains high, posing challenges for the socialist movement.
Fox News’ Paul Steinhauser and Anders Hagstrom report on national politics and major events, providing insights into the political dynamics surrounding these contentious issues.
