The Arizona Cardinals are experiencing a significant change in their lineup. Tight end Travis Vokolek announced his retirement at the age of 28. This decision follows a neck injury he sustained during a game against the Indianapolis Colts. Vokolek was injured while performing a block during a kickoff and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.
Vokolek shared the news on social media, stating that medical professionals recommended his retirement. “After numerous consultations with doctors and neurologists, I have been advised to medically retire from the NFL due to a serious neck injury sustained this past season,” he wrote. He expressed gratitude for achieving his childhood dream to play football at the top level over the past three years. Football provided him with lifelong lessons and cherished memories, he mentioned.
He thanked his teammates, coaches, and the Arizona Cardinals’ training staff for their support during this challenging time. Vokolek also expressed appreciation for his wife’s constant presence and support throughout his recovery process. “I approached every day of my professional football career with passion, determination, and discipline,” he said. “I truly gave my all on the field and am grateful for the love and support received. Lastly, thank you, football!”
Before his professional career, Vokolek played college football at Rutgers and Nebraska. He joined the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2023 but didn’t play in any games for the team. In December 2023, Vokolek signed with the Cardinals, participating in eight games. However, he was not a major part of the offense.
