An armed individual was taken into custody on Monday near a security barricade outside the U.S. Capitol. This incident led to a police investigation and a temporary shutdown of a section of the Capitol grounds.
The U.S. Capitol Police reported that the arrest occurred at the North Barricade when officers found the suspect possessing a firearm. Weapons are strictly forbidden on the Capitol grounds, prompting immediate closure of the area for investigators to handle the scene.
“Our investigators are working to learn more about the suspect and the reason behind his arrival at the U.S. Capitol,” stated the Capitol Police.

Entrances to the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. were obstructed as the police responded. Officers on the scene were seen removing several items from a Ford Bronco that was parked at the barricade. These items appeared to include water bottles and other personal belongings from a distance.
A dog present inside the vehicle was safely evacuated and transported by an SPCA vehicle.
With the investigation ongoing, the North Barricade continues to be inaccessible.
