The New Orleans Saints made waves during the 2026 NFL Draft by selecting Jordyn Tyson with their first-round pick. This move was aimed at complementing Chris Olave and providing quarterback Tyler Shough with two standout receiving options. However, it’s Barion Brown, a sixth-round selection, who is catching attention during the training camp.
Following commendations from head coach Kellen Moore, Brown showcased his talent on Thursday. He highlighted a two-minute drill by catching a 46-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Spencer Rattler.
Initially part of the second-team lineup, Brown has been gaining more first-team snaps. This suggests he may secure a noteworthy position for the Saints in the 2026 NFL season.
Barion Brown’s college career was notable. In 2023 at Kentucky, he received All-American first-team and All-SEC second-team honors, amassing 539 receiving yards and four touchdowns from 43 receptions. Additionally, he accumulated 576 kickoff return yards and scored three return touchdowns. He later transferred to LSU for his senior season, achieving All-SEC first-team honors. There, he recorded 532 receiving yards and one touchdown on 53 catches, with 445 kickoff return yards and another return score.
Across his four-year college tenure—three seasons at Kentucky and one at LSU—Brown totaled 2,060 receiving yards, 12 receiving touchdowns, 1,910 kickoff return yards, and six return touchdowns. His performance in kickoff returns made him a prospect to watch in special teams upon his drafting by New Orleans. Now, he is carving a significant niche within the offensive lineup.
Kellen Moore expressed appreciation for the synergy between Rattler and Brown after Thursday’s practice. “Barion did a great job adjusting to that ball, tracking it,” Moore remarked. “Those are deep balls, and the ball usually tails one way or another because the QB is running, so awesome job making a play.”
As Week 1 approaches, Brown’s prospects for securing the No. 3 receiver spot are promising. Competitive pressure comes mainly from Devaughn Vele and fourth-round rookie Bryce Lance.
