Caitlin Clark delivered another impressive performance on Thursday night, leading the Indiana Fever to an 83-71 win against Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream. Clark’s 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists helped her reach a WNBA record for the fastest player to achieve 150+ points and 50+ assists in a season. Remarkably, she tied her own record from the previous year.
Clark’s achievement comes soon after a heated exchange with Indiana Fever’s head coach, Stephanie White, during a loss to the Portland Fire. White faced criticism for benching Clark, prompting significant backlash from fans. Some called for White’s dismissal.
Personally, I’m doing great. I don’t really read that stuff. I know everybody can have an opinion and people make me aware… But I’m not sitting on Twitter or social media reading those things.
Despite the Portland loss, Clark remained unfazed as Indiana faced the Atlanta Dream at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. One tense moment arose when White did not challenge a questionable foul call on Clark, yet she stayed focused. Her crucial play during a 16-3 second-half run gave Indiana a decisive lead, which included a public show of unity with White.
This victory was further supported by Kelsey Mitchell’s 25 points and Aliyah Boston’s 19 points. Despite shooting only 4-of-9 from the field, Angel Reese achieved a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. This win improved Clark’s career record to 5-1 against Reese.
The win brings the Fever’s season record to 5-4. Questions persist about whether White’s strategies fully utilize Indiana’s talent, but the recent win certainly provides a measure of relief from mounting criticism.
