Caitlin Clark’s Return Inspires Indiana Fever’s Victory

Caitlin Clark did not play on Wednesday when the Indiana Fever faced the Portland Fire, marking her first absence this season. Indiana secured a win with a 90-73 score, yet Clark’s availability for Friday’s game against the Golden State Valkyries was uncertain. However, she returned to the lineup and scored 22 pivotal points, leading Indiana to a third consecutive win.

Clark expressed that recovery tested her mentally alongside physical challenges. “At the end of the day, it’s me and my confidence,” she mentioned on Friday. Returning from injury, she faced the mental hurdles of past soft tissue injuries in 2025.

Clark’s impressive WNBA career start was disrupted in 2025. As Rookie of the Year in 2024, she played 40 games but was limited to 13 games last season due to a groin strain and ankle bruise. She admitted her confidence still fluctuates, especially early in the season. “If I’m not 100% confident on Game 5, I wonder if it’s worthwhile,” she said.

In Friday’s win over Golden State, Clark played 32 minutes, contributing nine assists, narrowly missing a double-double. Clark noted the more demanding physicality compared to offseason play. “I played USA Basketball, but not 32 super physical minutes,” she explained. Understanding how her body feels post-game remains a key focus. “Adrenaline rushes can obscure immediate physical assessments,” she added, maintaining optimism despite challenges.

Clark continues to manage her mental health during recovery. “Sometimes, I get in my head, which is understandable,” she acknowledged, recognizing the need for self-compassion. She highlighted her past experiences as almost traumatizing, seeking grace from others too.

Clark doesn’t foresee back soreness as a lasting issue, affirming she’s doing all she can for optimal recovery and game readiness. Off the court, she revealed her children’s book, “EXTRAordinary! A Little EXTRA to Reach BIG Dreams,” with a November release.
