Eric Swalwell, a former Representative from California, appeared at a town hall meeting in Sacramento on April 7, 2026. Voters in California’s 14th Congressional District, which includes part of Alameda County in the Bay Area, will soon choose a successor in a special election. Swalwell resigned from Congress in April due to allegations of sexual assault and misconduct.
The district residents will make their decision in a runoff election, and the outcome is expected to keep the seat in Democratic hands. After the first round of voting in California’s top-two primary system, both remaining candidates are Democrats. State Senator Aisha Wahab, who gained 42.8% of the vote in June’s initial round, is regarded as the progressive choice. Former Dublin Mayor Melissa Hernandez, who secured 16.8% of the vote, is seen as the more moderate option.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and another super PAC have been actively spending in the race. AIPAC’s involvement in Democratic races has sparked considerable debate this year.
The polls are set to close at 11 p.m. EDT, and Decision Desk HQ will provide live results as they come in.
