Rookie quarterback Carson Beck made a notable impact during his preseason debut for the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game. Leading the team for the first half, Beck orchestrated an impressive 96-yard touchdown drive. Post-game, he expressed his excitement about returning to play. Beck said, From the moment I crossed the white lines, I felt ready. Last night, it was hard to sleep knowing I would be on the field again. I never take this opportunity for granted,
he shared with reporters.
Reflecting on his journey, Beck noted, After going through an injury and undergoing UCL surgery, I gained a deeper appreciation for every chance I get in football.
His gratitude was evident as he seized his opportunity on the field.
Before joining the NFL, Beck spent several seasons at Georgia and later transferred to Miami, where he led the Hurricanes to the College Football Playoff National Championship. In his debut game with the Cardinals, Beck completed 14 out of 19 passes for 188 yards and threw a touchdown. He was sacked once but earned an impressive 125.4 quarterback rating for his performance.
The Cardinals and Panthers were tied at 17-17 at halftime. The third quarter saw a tight 3-0 Cardinals lead, but the fourth quarter featured trading scores. Ultimately, Panthers’ undrafted rookie quarterback Haynes King clinched the game with a winning drive, securing a 33-30 victory for Carolina.
Despite the loss, Beck’s performance caught attention. Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur commented, I’m proud of how he played; it’s a strong first step,
showing support for Beck’s future prospects. Although he remains third on the depth chart behind Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II, Beck impressed enough to potentially become a starter.
The Cardinals’ preseason schedule continues against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, Aug. 13, followed by a game against the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 22, and concluding with a match against the Packers on Aug. 28. Their regular season kicks off on Sunday, Sept. 13, against the Los Angeles Chargers.
