Chicago Bears’ Caleb Williams Suffers Hamstring Injury During Game

The Chicago Bears are facing uncertainty after quarterback Caleb Williams sustained an injury during a game against the Minnesota Vikings. Williams needed assistance to leave the field, supported by two trainers as he limped to the sideline. Once there, he entered the team’s medical tent before being transported to the Bears’ locker room for further evaluation.

Williams appeared in pain after attempting to avoid a tackle from Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel. As he grabbed his right hamstring on the field, medical help quickly arrived. The Bears later confirmed that Williams suffered a hamstring injury, which prevented him from returning to the game.

Upon leaving the field, Williams acknowledged the supportive home crowd at Soldier Field with a thumbs up. However, the full impact of his injury will remain uncertain until an MRI is completed to determine its severity. Bears coach Ben Johnson stated, “We’ll know tomorrow.”

The nature of a hamstring injury can vary in seriousness. If a tear is present, recovery might take between three to six months, depending on the extent. A less severe strain could potentially allow Williams to return in one to three weeks.

Williams was replaced by backup quarterback Tyson Bagent, but the Bears ultimately lost the game to the Vikings. The team’s promising season now sits in uncertainty. In 2025, under first-year head coach Ben Johnson, Williams led the Bears to an 11–6 record and an NFC North title, showcasing his skill with 3,942 passing yards and 31 total touchdowns, marking their first playoff appearance since 2020.

The momentum continued into the 2026 season opener, where Williams completed 21 of 29 passes for 269 yards, secured two touchdowns, and rushed for an additional 65 yards, scoring twice more during a 59-37 victory over Carolina. Coach Johnson shared a sense of relief, “I’m happy it’s nothing with the knee,” he said. “But, yeah, a hamstring could be pretty damaging as well. We’ll see how bad it is tomorrow.”
