Adam Copeland and Christian Cage achieved a significant milestone on Sunday. They ended a 25-year gap by securing the AEW Tag Team Championship in an intense match against Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler at Double or Nothing.
The battle was fierce, featuring the use of ladders, tools, and even a flaming table. Despite the escalating violence, none of the participants were willing to quit early. The match was marked by injuries like Cage’s arm damage, Wheeler’s nose injury, and barbed wire cuts.
The Key Moments
At one point, Stokely Hathaway attempted to assist FTR. In a surprising turn, Beth Copeland, formerly known as Beth Phoenix, entered the scene to support her husband. She was removed from action before making a significant impact.
During the match, Harwood set a table ablaze, aiming to spear Beth through it. Instead, Hathaway was caught off guard and ended up going through the flaming table.
After this turn of events, Copeland and Cage focused on Harwood. They executed multiple submission maneuvers, while Beth Copeland handed Adam a spiked bat to escalate the pressure. Eventually, Harwood uttered “I quit,” granting a victory to Copeland and Cage.
A Historic Win
Copeland and Cage are renowned for their tag team success, having won seven titles in WWE. Upon joining AEW, neither claimed any gold. Now, over 25 years later, they are champions once more.
Their last title victory was in April 2001 at WrestleMania X-7, only to lose the belts shortly after. This victory marks a triumphant return to the top of the tag team division.
