The Dallas Cowboys secured a 34-30 win against the Houston Texans, rebounding from last week’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Quarterback Dak Prescott was instrumental in the victory, connecting frequently with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Lamb delivered an impressive performance with 189 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Prescott demonstrated accuracy with 32 completions on 45 attempts, accumulating 335 passing yards and a touchdown to Lamb. This win allowed Prescott to reach a significant career milestone, tying with Roger Staubach for the second-most wins in Cowboys’ franchise history. Both Prescott and Staubach now have 85 career wins. Staubach, a two-time Super Bowl champion and Pro Football Hall of Famer, achieved this mark years prior.
Prescott’s next target is Troy Aikman, the Cowboys’ all-time wins leader. Aikman, a three-time Super Bowl winner and Hall of Famer, retired with 94 wins. Prescott needs nine more wins to match Aikman and ten to surpass him. With a current record of 2-2, Prescott has the potential to set the wins record by the end of the season, depending on team performance.
The Cowboys prepare for a quick turnaround as they face the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, October 8. Tampa Bay will field rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels due to Baker Mayfield’s thumb injury. “We gotta get back tomorrow at it,” Prescott told CBS’s Pam Oliver following their victory over Houston. “It’s gonna be a quick turnaround. Use this momentum, use what we did in the second half, and just keep going.”
Following the Buccaneers game, the Cowboys will face tougher challenges with away games against the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles. Both teams currently share the Cowboys’ 2-2 record. The Arizona Cardinals, another upcoming opponent, sit at 1-3 after a loss to the New York Giants.
To tie Aikman’s record this season, the Cowboys must achieve 11 wins, and 12 to surpass him. Barring injury, Prescott is likely to claim the record, potentially this season or in 2027.
