Department of Justice Tackles Fraud with Major Enforcement Actions

The Department of Justice has initiated over 1,000 substantial fraud enforcement actions nationwide since the National Fraud Enforcement Division was established. These actions aim to protect taxpayer funds from schemes targeting Medicaid, SNAP, HUD, Social Security, and SBA programs. These federal programs are designed to support vulnerable groups such as the elderly, sick, and homeless.

Alongside the Department of Justice’s efforts, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched a nationwide operation focusing on illegal immigrants accused of fraudulently acquiring benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed several arrests of individuals deceitfully receiving SNAP benefits.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin emphasized that these welfare programs are intended for Americans. He stated that illegal aliens should not be exploiting these benefits and highlighted the detrimental effects of fraud on taxpayers.

DHS announced that ongoing operations would seek to apprehend and deport individuals involved in benefit fraud, with several Haitian nationals identified among those charged with SNAP-related offenses. The arrests included Haitian national Rubstony Junior Theodore, who has a criminal background involving larceny and trespassing.

Other Haitian nationals, Wilbert Jean Baptiste, Louis Jean, and Jhensly Charles, were also arrested. Additionally, Elizabeth Povea Rodriguez, a Cuban national with previous convictions, was detained during this operation.

“These arrests mark the opening salvo in a sustained, large-scale ICE operation specifically targeting illegal aliens who have fraudulently accessed SNAP benefits that American taxpayers fund exclusively for U.S. citizens in need,” DHS stated.

The Trump administration, as part of a broader crackdown, continues to target alleged SNAP fraud and misuse of federal benefits. Federal law typically prohibits illegal immigrants from receiving SNAP benefits, although some lawfully present noncitizens may qualify for the program.
