The Dallas Mavericks are in the process of finalizing a deal for Dusty May, famed coach of the national champion Michigan Wolverines, to move from college basketball to the NBA. A source, requesting anonymity, informed The Associated Press about the negotiations on Monday, emphasizing that the agreement was not yet formalized.
May led Michigan to an impressive NCAA championship victory with a score of 69-63 against UConn in April, capping a remarkable season with a 34-3 record. The Wolverines made history in the NCAA Tournament by becoming the first team to score at least 90 points in five consecutive games.
Prior to his success at Michigan, May achieved a milestone with Florida Atlantic, guiding the Owls to their first-ever Final Four appearance three years ago. The Owls returned to the NCAA tournament in 2024 before May’s appointment at Michigan.
May is set to replace Jason Kidd, who was released two weeks following Masai Ujiri’s appointment as the president of basketball operations and alternate governor of the Mavericks.
