During a game between the New York Mets and the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, a fan caused a significant disruption by running onto the field with a Palestinian flag. This event occurred on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks at exactly 9:11 p.m. Eastern Time.
The individual entered the field from the left-field seats and made a quick dash toward center field. Despite attempts by police officers and stadium security to stop him, the fan evaded capture for a brief moment before being detained on the outfield grass.
After security personnel escorted him beyond the center-field wall, fans sitting near the Mets’ bullpen expressed their disapproval by throwing beer cans at him. The crowd began chanting “USA” as he was removed from the stadium.
The Yankees organization did not provide a statement regarding the incident. Security managed to subdue the fan following his display on the field. The situation briefly delayed the game during a crucial moment in the top of the seventh inning, with the Mets threatening to score as Francisco Lindor was at bat. Despite the interruption, the Yankees held their lead and managed to retire Lindor to maintain their 5-2 advantage.
Prior to the start of the game, the Yankees paid tribute to the victims of the attacks on September 11, 2001. Several former players from the 2001 Yankees team, including Derek Jeter, participated in a ceremony honoring those who lost their lives.
