The original repost, sourced from StopAntisemitism, accused Macklemore of disseminating ‘anti-Israel propaganda’ and suggested Jewish fans deserved apologies and refunds. Pink combined the repost with ‘snarky memes,’ which sparked allegations of bias and led to boycott calls on social media.
Pink’s Statement: Her Current Perspective
Pink acknowledged that she had remained silent for a week, stating that her repost of the criticism about Macklemore’s presentation contained language she didn’t write or approve of. She admitted using memes in reply to the backlash was her choice, noting that ‘a repost isn’t a statement, and a meme isn’t a spine.’
‘I was born a Jew. I didn’t pick it, and I’ve never hidden it,’ Pink remarked, emphasizing that assumptions were made about her views without considering her past statements. She reiterated her sentiments from October 2023, stating: ‘Hamas is a terrorist organization. Palestinians deserve a future that honors their humanity and their aspirations. Protecting innocent life comes first, everywhere, and nobody should ever celebrate the death of a child. Anybody’s child.’
She mentioned her decade of service as a UNICEF ambassador, expressing that she has mourned lives lost on all sides. Pink emphasized that she would not ‘litigate a complex war in an Instagram caption’ or repeat slogans to regain social media followers.
