Fort Worth Fire Station Gives New Hope to Homeless Man and His Dog

Fire Station 8 in Fort Worth, Texas, serves as a “safe baby site” for parents who cannot care for their infants. However, earlier this month, a different kind of dependent was left there—a dog named Jake. Accompanying Jake was a note pleading for help, “If you really care about helping babies, please help my baby.”

Fort Worth Fire Captain Jason Bryant confirmed Jake’s good health, noting that he appeared well-cared for and strong. Jake had been living with a homeless man, Tom Miner, who ended up without a home because his landlord banned pets. Despite his deep attachment to Jake, Miner felt compelled to relinquish him in hopes of a better life for his dog. “It is, hands down, the hardest decision I ever made,” Miner expressed.

Fortunately, the situation took a positive turn when the fire station decided to care for Jake. Additionally, the Fort Worth Fire Department arranged for a local business to donate a camper to Miner. “This is my home,” Miner remarked about the camper enthusiastically.

Beyond providing shelter, the fire department organized basic supplies and healthcare visits for Miner. Their ultimate plan includes reuniting him with Jake once Miner regains stability. “One day he’s coming home,” Miner said, hopeful for the future. Fire Captain Bryant emphasized that this action was specific to Jake’s case and not a practice they can continue. He expressed that returning Jake to Miner would be an emotional moment, “I think there’ll be 30 grown men bawling.”
