FTR Takes a Break from AEW
Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, widely recognized as FTR, have announced an extended break from All Elite Wrestling (AEW). This follows their loss to Adam Copeland and Christian Cage in an I Quit match at the Double or Nothing event last month, where they relinquished the AEW World Tag Team Championship. This marked FTR’s third reign as champions, and the duo has not appeared in AEW programming since then.
Harwood’s Announcement
Harwood shared his thoughts in a detailed Instagram post, highlighting the need for a break. He spoke about the relentless pace they’ve maintained since 2014. The years have seen them perform tireless work despite injuries, including bicep and labrum tears, and a shoulder needing replacement.
“For the first time in 12 years, we’ve decided to step away and take some time for ourselves & for our families,” Harwood wrote.
He expressed uncertainty about their return and future plans, saying, “I’m not sure when we’ll be back, what we’re going to do, how much longer we have, or if we even need to prove anything at all anymore.”
Upcoming Matches
Though on hiatus, Harwood mentioned FTR’s upcoming match against Ken Anderson and Doc Gallows in Kentucky by the end of August. For now, he enjoys a vacation in Hawaii.
Future Aspirations
Wheeler shared aspirations in a separate interview with “Late Night Grin.” He revealed interest in participating in New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s World Tag League. Although past schedule conflicts prevented it, Wheeler now hopes to make it happen. He acknowledged the physical challenges but maintained his goal to attempt a World Tag League.
FTR has solidified its status as one of the top tag teams in professional wrestling over the years. Their achievements, including three AEW tag team titles, are a testament to their prowess.
