South Third Street in downtown Geneva will host the Geneva Arts Fair, a juried annual two-day event showcasing fine artisans from across the nation. The fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26.

Local Artist’s Debut
Geneva painter Elizabeth Kindig, known for her still life and landscapes, will present her paintings in front of the Kane County Historic Courthouse. Her booth will be located between James and Campbell streets. Kindig works with oils, acrylics, and pastels.
Originally from Indiana, Kindig moved to Geneva, her husband’s hometown, two years ago. She reflects on her childhood on a farm, stating, “I often play with color and abstraction to evoke my memories of the farm where I grew up.”
Finding Meaning in Art
Kindig has carved out a niche in painting family heirlooms. “In my still life work, I seek to give renewed pride to those heirlooms often tucked away in attics,” she explains. Her interest in the past and family history led her to paint her own family’s heirlooms, which eventually expanded to commissioned works for others.
One such commission included painting a late grandfather’s Standard Oil work coat, capturing details like hand-sewn names and repaired patches. “Now it’s an heirloom to pass on to the next generation,” Kindig says.
Background and Inspiration
Elizabeth Kindig grew up in northwest Indiana and worked as a middle school humanities teacher before devoting herself to full-time painting upon arriving in Geneva. Inspired by her family’s history and the visual scenery around her, she notes, “I am moved by my family’s history on the farm and the repetition of cornfields and grain silos catching light throughout the day.”
