The San Francisco Giants have announced the suspension of payments to outfielder Harrison Bader following an accident that worsened his injured left foot. Bader, who has been recovering from plantar fasciitis since late May, experienced a setback after a scooter mishap occurred last weekend in San Francisco.
The Giants’ President of Baseball Operations, Buster Posey, stated, “Over the weekend, Harrison Bader was involved in an accident that has delayed Harrison’s prior treatment timeline for plantar fasciitis and, unfortunately, his return to the field.” The team is currently looking into the details of the incident and will halt payments to Bader until he can resume his duties with the club.
Bader had signed a two-year deal with the Giants worth $20.5 million prior to this season, with a base salary of $4.5 million for this year. He is still owed $1.42 million for the remainder of the season. The incident, reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, happened around 2 a.m. in the Marina District, resulting in Bader being hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.
At the age of 32, Bader played in 30 games with a batting average of .170, hitting five home runs and collecting 14 RBIs before his injury. This incident is not his first involving a scooter. In college, while at Florida, Bader faced suspension in 2014 after hitting a curb and colliding with a truck. The Gainesville Sun reported he was found unresponsive at the scene and smelled of alcohol according to the incident report.
