Graham Rahal will join approximately two dozen drivers racing through Washington, D.C., on Sunday at the Freedom Grand Prix 250. This race coincides with the celebration of the U.S. 250th anniversary. Rahal shared his thoughts on this unique opportunity during the IndyCar Grand Prix Media Preview on Thursday.
Racing in the U.S. Capital
Rahal, representing Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, expressed excitement about racing in the U.S. capital. “As an American, this is an iconic moment,” he said. Participating in a race in front of Capitol Hill and driving down Pennsylvania Avenue is a significant experience for any American driver.
He emphasized the honor of showcasing the red, white, and blue on his car, highlighting the connection with military personnel he has interacted with over the years.
Prepared for the Challenge
Rahal conveyed his eagerness to be on the track. “We’re excited. Can’t wait to see the track,” he mentioned. Having seen parts of the track, he looks forward to competing for the trophy this weekend. Despite his excitement, he is trying to keep calm and composed.
Race Schedule
The excitement begins on Saturday morning with IndyCar’s first practice session at 9 a.m. ET, followed by a second session at 1 p.m. ET and qualifying at 5 p.m. ET. The first practice session will be broadcast live on FS1, with subsequent events airing on FS2.
Race Day Details
On Sunday, warm-ups start at 9 a.m. ET, leading to the main event when the green flag drops at 1 p.m. ET. Fans can catch the warm-up on FS1, while FOX will broadcast the race itself. This inaugural street race along Pennsylvania Avenue is part of the festivities to mark America’s 250th birthday.
