Harvey Fire Department Investigates Potential Arson in Turlington Road Fire

The Harvey Fire Department is investigating a series of fires that occurred on June 2 on Turlington Road as potential arson. A statement from the department indicated that evidence suggests these fires may have been set intentionally. However, further forensic analysis and investigation are necessary to confirm this suspicion.

The fires were reported at 2:30 a.m. on the 15400 block of Turlington Road. Firefighters managed to control the blaze by 4 a.m. Fire Chief Howard Fisher emphasized the seriousness with which the department is treating the incident. He stated, “We take these incidents very seriously and are committed to identifying those responsible. The safety of our residents, businesses, and firefighters remains our highest priority.”

During the cleanup, electricians discovered a kitten in the debris of the affected area. This discovery was made on the 5400 block of Turlington Road.

The fire department is collaborating with state and local authorities to further the investigation. The fire initially started in two structures that were overwhelmed by flames and subsequently spread to two other abandoned buildings due to intense radiant heat and hazards from active power lines. As a precaution, ComEd temporarily cut power in the affected area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

In October, Harvey furloughed approximately 40% of its city workforce due to financial distress, including nearly half of the Fire Department. To manage this, the city has been utilizing fire mutual aid from surrounding communities over the past seven months.
