HelloFresh Faces Controversy Over Pride Month Social Media Post

HelloFresh encountered online criticism following a social media post related to Pride Month. The post contained a sexual joke, prompting users to accuse the meal-kit company of promoting explicit content under the pretense of corporate activism.

The controversy began when HelloFresh highlighted its high-fiber meals by suggesting they could benefit those ‘prepping’ for Pride Month festivities. Critics claimed the brand made inappropriate sexual references. Meanwhile, supporters appreciated the post’s humor. In an Instagram post on Friday, HelloFresh stated, ‘We know eating isn’t always a top priority this month. We respect that. But for those of you who are… prepping… we have an extensive lineup of high-fiber recipes available. Happy Pride.’

Some Instagram responses to the post were positive. One user commented, ‘Unhinged,’ accompanied by laughing emojis, while another suggested a Pride Month discount code named ‘BOTTOMSUP.’ HelloFresh replied by offering the code for a discount.

Other comments praised the marketing team for their trust in creative work. Comedian Seth Lowery humorously remarked about the dual benefits of fiber. In response to the post, some users on X expressed discomfort. One user mentioned the timing amid increasing grocery prices and people facing food insecurity.

Wade Miller from the Center for Renewing America criticized HelloFresh’s post, accusing them of associating food with inappropriate content. He termed it a ‘bold strategy’ and decided to unsubscribe from the service.

Some individuals expressed dissatisfaction with corporate approaches to Pride Month celebrations. Ani O’Brien, identifying as a lesbian, posted her frustration with both corporate and activist Pride, specifically criticizing HelloFresh’s choice of messaging.

Fox News Digital reached out to HelloFresh for comment, but the company did not immediately respond. Rachel del Guidice, a reporter for Fox News Digital, covers this story.
