Honda Recalls Over 800,000 Vehicles Due to Rear Suspension Issue

Honda is recalling more than 800,000 vehicles due to a defect in rear suspension components. This issue may lead to drivers losing control, increasing the likelihood of accidents or injuries.

The recall affects certain models, including the 2016-2022 Honda Pilot, 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX. In total, 880,514 vehicles are impacted in regions such as Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The issue arises from the rear subframe, which may corrode at suspension mounting points, causing a failure in the rear suspension. Honda estimates that only about 1% of these vehicles possess the defect.

So far, Honda has not received any warranty claims or reports of injuries or deaths linked to this issue. As a solution, Honda and Acura dealers will inspect the rear subframe and provide necessary reinforcements. They will repair or replace the rear subframe components at no cost to vehicle owners.

Honda’s internal reference numbers for the recall are AOU and AOT. Starting June 10, Vehicle Identification Numbers affected by this recall will be available on NHTSA.gov.
