Husband Charged with Wife’s Murder Amid Custody Dispute

Gurinder Gill allegedly misled police about the whereabouts of his missing wife, Jasmine Gill. He claimed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents had arrested her when she went out to collect the mail at their home in Sacramento, California. However, just days before his claim, authorities in neighboring El Dorado County discovered burned and buried remains identified as hers.

The 28-year-old is now facing charges for the murder of his 30-year-old wife, an Indian-born nurse and mother of their 8-month-old child. At the time of her disappearance, the couple was embroiled in a divorce and child custody dispute, as reported by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Jasmine was last seen on September 30, and her cousin reported her missing on October 4. Investigators began to notice discrepancies in Gurinder’s statements concerning his wife’s disappearance, according to Sgt. Edward Igoe, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

“As the investigation progressed, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified several inconsistencies in Gurinder’s statements about his wife’s disappearance,” said Sgt. Igoe.

Subsequent investigations invalidated Gurinder Gill’s claims about ICE activity at their residence. On October 1, burned and buried remains were found approximately 70 miles from the couple’s Sacramento home. These remains were confirmed to belong to Jasmine Gill.

The police arrested Gurinder Gill on October 14 and conducted search warrants at two properties connected to him. He remains in custody without the possibility of bail.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to honor Jasmine’s memory. She was a devoted mother working towards a better future for her family. Her supporters have raised over $21,000 to return her remains to her mother in India and to support her young child.

“She was fighting for a better future for herself and her baby,” the campaign states. “Tragically, before she could build that future, Jasmine was murdered, leaving behind the child she was fighting so hard to protect.”
