In light of two recent fatalities, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) paused efforts to detain undocumented immigrants through traffic stops. This temporary halt came following two separate shooting incidents in Houston and Biddeford, Maine. Despite this decision, President Donald Trump later appeared to counteract the pause in enforcement with a social media post.
According to an analysis by The Washington Post, there have been at least 17 shootings involving motorists by federal immigration officers since Trump took office almost 18 months ago. The rise in these incidents correlates with the administration’s increased enforcement efforts. Such actions have drawn widespread attention and concern regarding the methods used by immigration officials.
