Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White took center stage before Tuesday night’s game. However, once the game began, her players made their mark. Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell made a significant impact, scoring 20 of her 28 points in the first half. Her backcourt partner, Caitlin Clark, added 22 points and 10 assists to Indiana’s performance, leading the team to a 106-92 victory over the New York Liberty. This victory marked the Fever’s seventh win in nine games.
Kelsey Mitchell was impressive, hitting 11 of her 16 field goal attempts. Along with Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, she successfully made four three-pointers. Cunningham contributed 12 points, while Aliyah Boston added 19 points and seven rebounds.
From the New York Liberty, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu each scored 19 points. Jonquel Jones finished the game with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Liberty began to rally when Indiana’s three-pointers stopped falling in the third quarter. They reduced the deficit to 66-57 with 6:51 left to play. However, the Fever responded with Mitchell’s three-point play and Cunningham’s three-pointer at the end of the period, extending their lead to 87-67.
Prior to the game, Stephanie White addressed criticism of her reaction to DiJonai Carrington’s flagrant foul on Cunningham. White emphasized the importance of focusing on the sport and not the controversies, stating, “The hate, fearmongering, and divisiveness that attempt to hijack our league will not succeed. We are united and will not be divided.”
White’s passionate defense of her team concluded with a firm message of love, grace, and unity. After her remarks, she exited without taking questions.
