New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. experienced a challenging moment during Tuesday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. A fielding error turned into an uncomfortable situation when Chisholm blamed the second-base umpire for his mistake.
During the scoreless second inning at Camden Yards, with runners on first and second, Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon delivered a pitch that induced a potential inning-ending double-play ball. The ball was hit directly to Chisholm at second base. Instead of completing the play, Chisholm mishandled the ball, allowing it to load the bases. Chisholm then pointed to second-base umpire Ryan Additon as if he was responsible for the error.
The replay showed Additon was in the correct position, debunking Chisholm’s claim.
Fortunately for Chisholm, Rodon managed to retain control of the situation. He struck out Carlos Narvaez and Jackson Holliday consecutively, effectively preventing any runs. This allowed the Yankees to secure a 3-1 victory.
Chisholm has been enduring a rough season in 2026, entering the game with an average of .216. Last weekend, he was benched due to his performance. He openly acknowledged his struggles, stating his numbers for the season have been disappointing.
Former teammate Anthony Rizzo criticized Chisholm for his immaturity during an ejection in Yankees’ games against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. was fortunate that his pitcher took care of the situation before it affected the scoreboard.
