Jennifer Lopez opens up about her personal evolution following her divorce from Ben Affleck.
In a recent discussion on the “Smartless” podcast with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, Jennifer Lopez shared insights into her personal growth journey post-divorce. Reflecting on her marriage and subsequent split from Affleck, she acknowledged how the experience prompted significant changes in her life habits.
“There have been various moments when I felt my life was unraveling, often due to choices I made,” Lopez stated. “There were aspects of my personality I needed to alter – issues I hadn’t pinpointed. These were attracting certain experiences into my life.”
Lopez emphasized the importance of recognizing when change is necessary, noting, “Realizing the need for personal evolution is a choice. Following my divorce from Affleck, I made that decision, canceling my tour to self-reflect.” She recounted contemplating her own actions, thinking, “What’s happening with you? Focus inward, leave external factors aside, and understand your role in this.”
Affleck and Lopez married in July 2022 in Las Vegas, later celebrating with a larger event in Georgia. After nearly two years, they separated in April 2024, following which Lopez filed for divorce in August.
The pair originally dated from 2002 to 2004, meeting on the set of “Gigli.” They reconnected in early 2021 and became engaged nearly two decades after their initial engagement.
Lopez described the divorce as “the catalyst for my transformation,” during a “CBS Sunday Morning” interview in September 2025. “It was instrumental in my personal growth, making me more aware and a different individual than I was a year ago,” she said.
During a promotion for her movie “Office Romance,” Lopez humorously referenced her relationship experiences, claiming expertise on “narcissists” and jokingly suggesting she could “give a Ted Talk on emotional intelligence and dysfunctional relationships.” Lopez has previously been married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony, and has dated high-profile personalities like Sean “Diddy” Combs, Casper Smart, and Alex Rodriguez.
