Former West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin has clearly stated his opposition to supporting socialist candidates during a discussion on CBS’ ‘Face the Nation.’ Manchin responded decisively when asked about backing socialist contenders, saying, ‘No way. My God, no.’
When host Margaret Brennan inquired if Manchin would support socialist candidates with good ideas, he acknowledged the merit of beneficial proposals but questioned some socialist demands. Manchin expressed concern about their platform, noting their desires to overhaul various governmental structures, including Congress and the Senate, and other radical proposals concerning law enforcement.
‘Have you seen their platform?’ Manchin asked. ‘They’re for dismantling everything that we know, whether it be the structure of government, Congress itself, or the Senate they want to get rid of.’
Manchin emphasized the importance of law enforcement in maintaining public safety and expressed his views on maintaining a strong national defense and border security. He voiced his apprehension about the energy policies advocated by socialists and stressed the significance of U.S. energy production for global dependence.
His daughter, Heather Manchin, joined him on the program and shared her concerns about the Democratic Party leadership’s reluctance to challenge far-left candidates and socialists. She criticized the prioritization of control over character in political decisions, insisting that this shift has led to considerable consequences for the party.
Recent elections have seen several candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) rise to prominence. Despite a request for comments, Fox News Digital did not receive a response from the DSA.
A poll conducted by Fox News in July revealed that 52% of Democrats viewed socialism favorably, compared to 41% for capitalism, indicating an increasing acceptance of socialist principles among some Democrats.
