Kelly Ripa faced an unexpected pause in her television career due to a painful dental surgery. Her husband, Mark Consuelos, shared the news during a recent episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark”.
“Kelly sends her love,” Consuelos mentioned to guest Nick Jonas. “She’s recovering from a gum graft surgery.” This type of surgery is commonly recommended for thinning or receding gums, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Consuelos indicated that Ripa’s dentist had advised this procedure five years ago. “Her dentist mentioned, ‘You can do it in about five years,'” he recalled. Reflecting on her long-running career, she had joked about her show’s longevity.
The recovery involves strict doctor’s orders, including refraining from speaking, which Consuelos humorously noted as challenging for the talkative host. Jonas added to the humor, quipping about the difficulty of silence for Ripa.
Consuelos shared that managing Ripa’s curiosity and ensuring she adhered to post-surgery care has been demanding. “Last night, she wanted me to check her gums. I told her, ‘I’m not pulling your lip down,'” he said, emphasizing the care needed for her recovery.
Ripa’s experience with pain is notable, as she usually avoids novocaine during dental visits. This surgery’s soreness has been distinctive, marking a rare instance of discomfort and caution for her.
Jonas commented on women’s high pain tolerance. He shared an anecdote about his wife, drawing parallels to Ripa’s situation, to which Consuelos added comments about women’s resilience in childbirth.
Ripa’s absence from “Live” is confirmed for the upcoming week as her recovery continues, her representative noted. Her return to the show remains anticipated by fans.
