LIV Golf is hosting its New York event at President Donald Trump’s National Golf Club in Bedminster. This marks the third occasion that the new tour has selected one of President Trump’s golf clubs for its events. As witnessed at a previous event, President Trump personally attended to observe the proceedings.
During the event, President Trump drew notable attention. As reported by The New York Post, he received a warm reception from the crowd while driving a golf cart around the course. The reaction is consistent with the public’s varied responses to Trump’s appearances at different sporting events.
For instance, he tends to receive enthusiastic cheers at UFC fights and college football games, but often faces boos at New York Knicks playoff games. At his own golf club, it is unsurprising that the crowd welcomed him with applause.
This gathering at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster is significant for LIV Golf, a tour undergoing substantial changes. Previously, it faced uncertainty about its future past 2026. This was due to the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announcing in April that it would cease funding the tour, which posed a significant challenge as it was LIV’s sole financier.
However, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil provided updates this week. He disclosed that LIV Golf has secured an unnamed investor. O’Neil mentioned, “LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and support the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players.”
